Finding Meaning in Adversities

Adversity might not be something we want to experience, yet it’s an inevitable and even important part of life. Recall the major adversities you’ve experienced so far, such as personal health or relationship issues. Did your pain and suffering in those experiences motivate you to make any positive change or inspire certain insights about yourself or others? Although it’s often difficult to see it while you’re experiencing the pain, adversity is an important source of meaning discovery. But it’s up to each of us to find the meaning for ourselves and overcome the suffering by embracing it as a key part of personal and collective growth.

In our final lecture, we’ll explore how to find meaning in adversity by applying what you’ve learned throughout this course. How can contemplative practices help us find meaning in pain and suffering? Can you apply mindfulness and self-compassion to meaning discovery in adversity? Join us in our last lecture to help you understand and gain insights into this ever-challenging issue that you’ll have to navigate throughout your life.
