Being Kind to Yourself  ̶  The Art of Mindful Self-Compassion

Are you kind to your friends especially when they’re suffering or in difficulty? If your answer is yes, ask yourself whether you can be equally kind to yourself. Self-kindness can be a challenge where we’re conditioned by social expectations to put our loved ones’ needs before our own, but it’s an essential element (as well as mindfulness, which we covered in Lecture 3) of self-compassion, which is important for our personal wellbeing. In Lecture 4, we’ll explore what self-compassion is, the common misconceptions about it, the evidence for its benefits to personal wellbeing, and some practices of mindful self-compassion.
